Why I'm Starting This Blog
A brief introduction to who I am, my journey in engineering, and what I plan to write about.
I started my career as an Android engineer in Portugal, shipping apps for different clients — learning by doing, breaking things, and fixing them. A few years in, I got curious about iOS and decided to learn it. Eventually I worked with other technologies too, including backend development on various projects. Mobile remained my core, but I never wanted to be limited to one thing.
Somewhere along the way, I started doing more than just my own work. Helping the team move faster. Thinking about the bigger picture. In 2016, I found myself leading the mobile team at my company. I wasn’t sure I was ready. Turns out, nobody ever is.
Today I lead the Mobile & Web Apps Value Stream at OutSystems — teams spanning backend, frontend, and mobile. I also led the engineering side of our first acquisition integration, which taught me more about change, people, and patience than any book could.
What I’ll write about here
- Leadership — my own experiences, kept as honest as possible
- Reflections from books, conversations, and mistakes
- How engineering leadership is evolving, especially with AI changing the way we build software
I don’t have all the answers. But writing helps me think, and maybe some of it will be useful to you too.
Let’s see where this goes.
